Before my son Alex turned 7 years old, a few weeks ago, I was on a hunt for the perfect gift for him. He’s big on music, so for his last birthday I bought him his first CD BoomBox and for a while, it was great. Alex’s musical taste leans towards 80’s hair bands (similar to mine), so our entire house got to enjoy classics from Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses, AC/DC, etc.
Then High School Musical 2 came out and life in our home was never the same. Alex received the CD and started playing it over and over and over again. He loved it. I didn’t.
It was then that I decided that it was time to bring in a personal music player, so that Alex could listen to what he wanted to and I could keep my sanity at the same time.
I looked around for some sort of kid’s version that would be simple to use, but after doing a lot of comparison, I found that the 1gb Apple iPod Shuffle, had everything I wanted for my son. It’s small, easy to use, comes in cool colors and was priced affordably.
It clips right on to your clothing and can hold up to 240 songs. The shuffle setting eliminates the added buttons that would just be confusing to a 7-year old anyway. It comes with USB dock that allows you to charge and sync music with a pc at the same time. Each full charge gives you about 12 hours of music.
What was an added bonus for me was that when you order it from the Apple store, they include engraving on the back for free, which allowed me to wish Alex a Happy Birthday and tell him that I love him.
